Racism in the fashion world has always been a taboo. Last year, supermodels, Naomi Campbell and Iman, put the industry on front street with the deprived positions obtained to black people in the fashion world (i.e. designers, models, buyers, editors, etc). Indeed, we are one of the top consumers in every industry! Now in 2014, fashion designer, Umit Benan, created a nostalgic collection inspired by Jackie Robinson, the first African-American to play in Major League Baseball. Although blacks have always been the unsung hero on style, swag, and taste-making, Benan recapture those classical moments one would see at their grandparents photo album to the runways with his all black modeling cast. A solid nod to the rich and grounded colors hue in varsity jackets, wide lapel sportcoats while the relaxed silhouettes provided easy suiting. Besides avant-garde Maison Martin Margiela and Rick Owens, there has not been many who are seeking to embrace more ethnic beauty (i.e. black, asian, arabic, hispanic, etc.) to capture a universal audience!
The NBC network will be featuring a new show with Naomi Campbell. The show will be called, “The Face” which will revolve around models competing to become a spokesperson for a national brand (sounds similar doesn’t it lol). The supermodel will be one of the three coaches their perspective models along their journey. As of right now, the other two coaches have not been confirmed. There would blood in the water if the other two were from that other show who fired their best judges.
Unlike America’s Next Top Model, there will a worldwide search as they will be their guide on the objectives. “The Face is a fresh new series that delivers all the elements our audience craves: fashion, beauty and drama,” said Rod Aissa, senior vp original programming and development and Oxygen Media. “Oxygen has been looking for the next idealization in the modeling genre and this project delivers it.”
Due to the declining rating from its predecessor, I would love to know how long this show will last. One thing people fact to understand there have been several different modeling reality tv series. Models of the Runway and among others had pretty decent concepts. Yet, these very same shows did not last longer than 2 seasons. If “The Face” has any success, the great contribution would be from the great Supermodel herself. Timing can not be more perfect to feature a new show since the previous of ANTM’s triple threat force left the stage.
Talking about an legendary shot by Naomi Campbell and Tyson Beckford. Two of the hottest black model laid up butt naked in a photoshoot. I know there are some people out there gagging about this photo, but can’t you blame them? How often are you going to Naomi Campbell up like that? The closest way I will be laid up on her by wearing my Marc by Marc Jacobs with her on it. They also had the nerve to provide a pop of color with the sneakers haha..
All jokes aside, I truly love this image of these two. Rare we will see two revolutionary black supermodel (male and female) on this level capture an image like this, haute. #PureArt
One of my all time favorite shirt. Marc by Marc Jacobs happens to contribute to many different causes. The quote is “Protect the skin you’re in” does deliver a message for not only health, but being the true individual you truly are! Many people are not comfortable in their skin which is sad. Nevertheless, the shirt is so chic.. easy to throw on. Thought about going to bed with her (the shirt), but I had to think twice *dodges projectile*
Supermodel Naomi Campbell gracing the cover for the June’s Vogue Japan cover. Naomi is everything! Styled by Lori Goldstein, latest Gucci Dress which has been featured in numerous editorials perhaps looks the best on Naomi. I live for her!
