Suck my preppiness

Today was a beautiful day enough for me to rock my yellow Michael Kors jeans (they were originally white). Recently, I have been going through a hip hop/rock-star mood. However, it was great add a change in the mix! The ensemble shown above is to express my aesthetic of the day, All-American prep. I chose to rock this vintage glen plaid/houndstooth jacket under my light blue John Varvatos shirt, Polo neck tie, Murano vest, my recently Michael Kors dyed yellow denim pants to add a pop of color and with my favorite Salvatore Ferragamo loafers!

Its alright to have a distinctive style. After all, style is indeed personal. Because it is personal, I want to make sure I express more than one side of myself. So should you!

A Penny for your Thoughts

The Ensemble: Raf by Raf Simons t shirt; William Rast Jeans; Y-3 Sneakers; ASOS leather jacket

There is a phrase that goes, “a penny for your thoughts”. After looking at the previous commercial for JC Penny, it had me thinking otherwise. To be completely honest with you all, I always frowned upon the store. Its not really because of my appreciation to designer clothing; There was nothing which appealed to stylish young men as myself. When I found out Nick Wooster (the style king of menswear), it gave all of us the ultimate undivided attention.

The next step was to see it all for myself. Recently, I took a visit the store to check out their threads. This was a quick in and out deal, I assumed. Its turns out I was wrong. Vibrant hues of electric blue and tangerine orange stopped my tracks as I tried on blazers, cardigans and shirts. Their fitting is appealed to the average man; however, it was safe enough to go down a size to get a slight contemporary silhouette. Men’s essentials at affordable prices which could give The Gap and Banana Republic a run for their money.

Overall, the garments were not as “fashion forward”, but the company are certainly taking extreme measures to rebrand themselves. The prices and color palettes were enough to consider me to be a new customer. There is no room to front in this economy. It looks like JC Penny JCP is about to save the day!

For the Night

Sometimes I forget what the nightlife is since I am a parent. A break is necessary at times from our daily rituals. Personally, going out to clubs/bars are so dull to me. There is a lack of excitement. Its like shooting blanks whenever you have sex. Talk about a waste of life.. The only thing which makes me interested is networking and styling on them in the process… let me stop rambling lol

It often rare for me to actually have the people I care about alot celebrate a day, which I felt was very important to me, my birthday. I didn’t really get to chance to do anything on my birthday (which was on a thursday) because I had to work at my day job. Needless to say, the weekend began at 5:00 P.M. friday.

I would have to my weekend was an event. My cousin, Sam Beast and his girlfriend treated me to all you can eat sushi. Eating sushi happens to be one of my favorite food. The environment was pretty decent filled with welcoming workers. A round of sake and couple bottle of sapporo will be get you the buzz you need.

The following day  My sister took it upon herself to throw my 26th birthday party soiree. Considering this is my first party in almost 20 years, I was totally appreciated the gift (having your bday in the winter isnt the best time). The theme was an Asian theme consisted of Asian decorations, Chinese/Japanese food, etc; it was to display homage towards my passion of the martial arts. Everybody there was just fab and showed great class, style, and humor. The energy was amazing!

Since I was not able to able to purchase anything from the Versace H&M cruise collection, I decided to rock one of the shirts from the previous collection. The shirt was the short sleeve asymmetrical print top. At first, I was not really fond of the shirt. However, it slowly grew on me. The ensemble I was going was party chic! I really wanted to deliver a high-low fashion look with my John Varvatos shiny denim jeans, Express blazer and complete with my Y-3 high tops and Hermes inspired printed pocket square from Forever 21.

After pleasing my wonderful friends/guests, we took the night on the town. We decided to change the scenery by going to Prime Lounge ( a very grown and city scene). Unfortunately the crowd was not jumping as anticipated. The best cure with those situations are being around great people! I was totally blessed to be in their presence. They really treating me like a king, which was totally priceless!

Sibling Rivalry

Took a trip down nostalgia lane as I reflect the moments in Magic Hands with my little brother, Julius. Julius was my younger brother who took up martial arts the same time as me. Sometimes his wisdom was entirely too ahead of his time, I would question whose actually the bigger brother lol. He had some of the best kicks I have ever seen in my life!

Like every sibling, there is always bickering and arguing. Julius was a great debater. At times, he loved to use his tactics he learned from the debate team against me. I was not fond out debates at all; two huge ego adding fuel to the fire on a potential fight. It was said, its best not to let your enemy see you sweat. The poker face remained on my face. I chose to take my anger elsewhere, the dojo.

Its sad my grudges were used for sparring practice as payback. I loved it once we were able to touch gloves as we bowed before we fought. I was already keep my defense because of his lighting kicks. My anger provoked power to subdue my little brother. Indeed, demonstrating powerful techniques against him worked after all; however, the heat intensified more every time he got back up. I always knew he was upset because he loved to throw late hits.

A so called friendly sparring match led to a sibling rivalry full contact fight. Whenever we have our gloves on, WE WERE NOT BROTHERS!! Simple Kicks and punches led to leg sweeps, stomps, and throws across the room! You would actually think it was a movie how we fought. Matter of fact, this Boondocks video with Huey and RIley fighting was the best description how we fought:

It was always war between the two of us fighting; 2 brothers who were expressing their differences in a unique way. Even though our fights were broken up, we hated each other till class was over with. Pride could not hold grudges forever when you love someone. We could help but to smile and hug it up afterwards. Just from reflecting back, its amazing how much we fought like other brothers, mentally and physically.

One thing I have learned about us fighting is we all have our unique ways of expressing it. We must be able to adapt in any kind of situation no matter what. I truly miss those days!
