Suck my preppiness

Today was a beautiful day enough for me to rock my yellow Michael Kors jeans (they were originally white). Recently, I have been going through a hip hop/rock-star mood. However, it was great add a change in the mix! The ensemble shown above is to express my aesthetic of the day, All-American prep. I chose to rock this vintage glen plaid/houndstooth jacket under my light blue John Varvatos shirt, Polo neck tie, Murano vest, my recently Michael Kors dyed yellow denim pants to add a pop of color and with my favorite Salvatore Ferragamo loafers!

Its alright to have a distinctive style. After all, style is indeed personal. Because it is personal, I want to make sure I express more than one side of myself. So should you!

Fist of Fury: Dojo Fight

I am not gonna lie back in the day, Me and my little brother always wanted to go to other people’s martial arts schools imitating from this scene.  That was a childish yet arrogant stage, but who doesn’t live moment they see in the movies lol! Bruce Lee took care of business with the karate school in Shanghai in Fist of Fury. Talk about a one man army! By the way, were those real people he was swinging? Comedy I tell ya!

Projekt: F.O.N – Photoshoot

Me, William Mitchell aka “Iron WIll” – Creative Director/fashion stylist/founder of Projekt; F.O.N

I have been going through a slight hiatus regards to the blogging. Needless to say, I miss sharing information to my viewers that express my aesthetics about life. However, I have been occupied getting my stuff together regards to a movement. A movement which is very needed in the Louisville area and eventually American pop culture. This movement is called, “Projekt:F.O.N” .

We are a group of stupid dope individuals who came together on some captain planet shit to save the world! Using our creativity and resources to build our passions into prespective careers is our goal. We tend to use it not only to honestly express ourselves, but also to inspire others to do the same! This is something which has never been done in Louisville. Meeting of the minds is extremely scarce in this city; everyone is out for themselves. Fortunately, I have been blessed with a group of people who understands me as much as I understand them. They are all great. We laugh, joke, and argue. We are a creative family. What we do is our life.. we are going to change alot of things…. This photo shoot is only a prelude… stay tuned!

A Penny for your Thoughts

The Ensemble: Raf by Raf Simons t shirt; William Rast Jeans; Y-3 Sneakers; ASOS leather jacket

There is a phrase that goes, “a penny for your thoughts”. After looking at the previous commercial for JC Penny, it had me thinking otherwise. To be completely honest with you all, I always frowned upon the store. Its not really because of my appreciation to designer clothing; There was nothing which appealed to stylish young men as myself. When I found out Nick Wooster (the style king of menswear), it gave all of us the ultimate undivided attention.

The next step was to see it all for myself. Recently, I took a visit the store to check out their threads. This was a quick in and out deal, I assumed. Its turns out I was wrong. Vibrant hues of electric blue and tangerine orange stopped my tracks as I tried on blazers, cardigans and shirts. Their fitting is appealed to the average man; however, it was safe enough to go down a size to get a slight contemporary silhouette. Men’s essentials at affordable prices which could give The Gap and Banana Republic a run for their money.

Overall, the garments were not as “fashion forward”, but the company are certainly taking extreme measures to rebrand themselves. The prices and color palettes were enough to consider me to be a new customer. There is no room to front in this economy. It looks like JC Penny JCP is about to save the day!

Target and Neiman Marcus Holiday Collection

Fall/Winter fashion is my favorite time of the entire year. There are so many options to choose from. After all, it displays the best aesthetic for outwear and layering to accentuate ones personal style. Besides fall fashion, what I enjoy  is the unpredictable designers who break through the masses collaborating with various stories such as Target, H&M, Macys, etc. These collaborations give fashion enthusiasts to rock some of the dopest and hottest garments of the year. After discovering Thom Browne and Rag & Bone were checked on the list for their collection with Neiman Marcus as well as Target,  It shows its going to be a great season for menswear! Some of the designers tend to shy away from their aesthetic; but I felt these designers had garments which truly their ultimate aesthetic. The 2 garments displayed are on my “must have” for the holidays.

The Navy blazer from Thom Browne executes a natural twist to the fashion staple. The contrast of the white piping around the blazer gives an upper east sider look accessorized with brass buttons and the signature stripes inside the jacket. This is something which should be worn in complete confidence and tailored superb! I can’t beat the price with a bat for $150.00!

This shawl collared cardigan designed by rag and bone provides wear for the contemporary stylish gentleman and fashionable guy. It has a certain nonchalant attitude as you can rock with it out with a t-shirt, distressed jeans, and boots or dress it up with a white button up, tie and trousers of your choice (i.e. chinos, jeans, etc.)

These are on my christmas list. Gentleman, what is on your list for the holidays?

Brunch at Toast

Recently, me and my lady happened to have times from ours from parenting. We decided to go to brunch on Market. You are talking about breakfast food to die for! I have never had such an “out-of-body” experience with food like this. My food section was pretty standard, Pancakes and French Toast. Sometimes I don’t like to switch my appetite too much. I’m kinda like that old person who only use the same fragrance for 30-40 years lol. However, food this good, its okay to be greedy and order to whole menu!

That weekend, I chose to embrace my inner edgy chic side by implying my Asos Leather Motorcycle Jacket and William Rast distress jeans, Versace H&M T-shirt, and finished with an urban twist with the low-cut Lebron James 9 sneakers. Sometimes its good to change your look from time to time (unfortunately, I have been negligent for posting my looks on the blog. More Coming soon…)

Elaine Welteroth Breaking Barriers with Teen Vogue

Looks like there more barriers have been broken in the publication world as Condé Nast hired its first-ever African-American editor-in-chief, Keija Minor at Brides and the now, Elaine Welteroth (the new Beauty and Health Director), is moved on up at Teen Vogue. This is totally inspiring for people of color working the ranks up in the beauty and fashion industry.

Although her shift from Glamour to Teen Vogue, her job requirements includes writing, editing, shooting, market work and covering all the social networks–however she will now be spouting advice to teens and dealing with the business side of publishing thanks to that “director” title.  A position as such is not only inspiring, but also allow publications to display diversity amongst cultural differences. It’s always great to see ideas from alternate approach.

According to Fashionista.com, she quoted, “We live in a multi-cultural world, so embracing diversity is important in every industry”. “As it’s related to publishing, I think magazines really benefit from having a staff with a range of different perspectives and cultural references so that any reader can feel like there is someone on the masthead they can relate to, someone they can trust to speak up for them. It’s great to see that idea being embraced more and more.”

Kudos to her! With her significant number of followings via Twitter and Instagram, Its without a doubt she’s going to exceed beyond expectation.

Whenever I hear stories like this, I feel like its very important to remind people to have faith. In martial arts, I learned its essential to keep the mind, body and spirit as one while executing a task (or challenge). Let your aspirations become a vessel to build opportunities for others despite the society may believe.

Navajo

I love walking down the highlands. There is never a dull moment venturing to find inspiration. After all, it’s an ultimate hotspot for people who love to express themselves. Expressing yourself is very liberating. Today, I wanted to express that feeling with a statement top as this Shirt by ASOS. Like the Aztec print, the navajo print has been on trend for quite some time now. Normally, I am not the person to jump on trend. Instead, I believe its best to show some versatility. ASOS never fails with their unbeatable prices as they stay with the latest fashions.

To compliment the shirt, I decided to toss on my new Cole Haan oxfords and distressed jeans while strolling down the highlands of Louisville. The contrast of blue really gives it an extra pop #swag

Maison Martin Margiela for H&M campaign

Finally, there are images of H&M’s collaboration with Maison Martin Margiela has cracked the surface. During this campaign, the Belgian fashion house appear to execute their avant garde and futuristic designs in outerwear following a neutral color palette. Clearly these are statement pieces which will provide great use for those who seek to dress unconventional. Judging from the collection so far, I would not expect it to win every person (Americans mainly). Most of the time, consumers tend to take the conservative seat while the artist driven will be standing in lines for this highly anticipated collection next month!
